Reflexology
What is reflexology?
Reflexology is an ancient alternative medicine branch in the field of nature therapy that is based on activating the healing powers of a human body. A human being is viewed as an energetic system in Eastern medicine. This complex and invisible system can be used to communicate to various organs, glands, and body parts. Due to the energetic connections between organs and outer surface of the body, it is possible to treat ear inflammation from the sole of the foot or constipation from the ear.
Reflexotherapist works on the reflexion areas or zones of the organs/glands situated on the entire surface of the body with his/her hands and round-ended sticks.
Reflexological zones are situated all over the body; more important zones are more concentrated on the sole of the foot, on the ear, calf, thigh, and head. Reflexology is different from zone therapy mainly due to the fact that reflexology uses the zones on the entire body surface to influence human body whereas zone therapy concentrates mostly on the sole of the foot.
Treatment relieves of the potential energetic blocks that may develop or already have progressed to pathological conditions.
For whom, why, and how often?
Reflexotherapy is applied based on patient needs and condition. It centres on restoring persons homeostasis. Working on zones stimulates nerve endings and blood circulation, enhances organ function, and also alleviates stress and tensions in the body, promotes excretion of waste products, restores the movement of life energy. The therapy is well suited for maintaining health and good spirits.
Therapy is a tight cooperation between a patient and a therapist. You can openly discuss your problems, because therapist is subject to confidentiality obligation. Therapist usually gives advice how to stay healthy better and what to do against diseases. It is also good to express your feelings during the therapy, because reflexion zones may be painful. Pressure applied is adjusted individually. Therapist benefits from knowing the post-therapeutic reactions. Some people may present with frequent urination, fatigue, diarrhoea, irritability, or various feeling reactions after the therapy. All these are considered natural bodily reactions to therapy and these quickly pass. Toxins start to excrete from the body and stress in the body starts to disappear. For the better balance of the body, it is recommended to drink more than usual and to rest couple of hours after the therapy. Physical exercise should be avoided for at least 3 hours after the therapy. However, light being and good spirits are more common after the therapy.
Reflexology has shown good results in the following cases:
• solving metabolic problems
• relaxing stress and panic disorder
• sleeplessness
• hormonal problems
• alleviating headaches
• relieving colic pains in infants
• diminishing joint and muscular pain
Often, first therapy session already shows some results. For healing, patient still often needs a course of therapy consisting of 6 to 8 times. The duration of the course and selected treatment regimen depend on the individual case.
For better and faster results, the patient should inform the therapist about used medicines, foreign bodies in the organism, and performed operations.
